AI Trust Security Open Science EGI2024

The EGI2024 conference promises a series of informative sessions dedicated to the latest advancements in technology and research. On the morning of 3 October, attendees can participate in three engaging parallel sessions, each focusing on developments in AI, trust and security, and reproducible Open Science. Here's a preview of what each session will cover.

Processing Research Data with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

Curious about how AI can help classify large volumes of images or how it can accelerate your research by automating complex data analysis tasks? Looking to understand how AI can improve predictive accuracy in your experiments? This session is designed for researchers eager to harness the power of AI and Machine Learning in their work. We will cover the entire Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) lifecycle, from data acquisition and preprocessing to inference pipelines. Attendees will explore AI applications across various scientific domains, including climate hazards and marine science.

The session features prominent projects such as AI4EOSC, iMagine, and interTwin, attendees will explore key topics like federated learning, distributed computing, experiment tracking, and drift detection. Real-world use cases will demonstrate the application of advanced techniques, including Graph Neural Networks and 3DGANs. Kicking off with a presentation on the EGI AI roadmap, this session will provide a clear vision of the future directions for AI capabilities within the EGI infrastructure. Don't miss this opportunity to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving AI landscape!

Trust and Security

In the context of research, where distributed data sources and computing facilities are the norm, and researchers are often affiliated with multiple institutions, maintaining trust and security is a significant challenge. This session will focus on how to manage trust and identity in such complex digital environments, ensuring that security is upheld across all touchpoints.

Attendees will dive into key concepts such as authentication, authorisation, trust models, trust boundaries, and trustworthiness, all crucial for safeguarding information assets. This session will provide practical strategies for mitigating security risks in research environments and offer insights into the tools and frameworks necessary to maintain confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Expect contributions from experts at KIT, CESNET, Secure Dimensions GmbH, INFN, and NIKHEF, who will share their experiences and solutions.

Reproducible Open Science: making research reliable, transparent and credible

Reproducibility is a cornerstone of Open Science, crucial for ensuring the reliability, transparency, and credibility of scientific findings. This session will feature speakers from INSA-Lyon, D4Science, CMCC, DESY and EGI Foundation, and will highlight the latest services and tools that support reproducibility and Open Science practices within the EGI and EOSC ecosystems. Attendees will learn about challenges and solutions for accessing reusable data, producing provenance information, delivering reproducible computing environments, and facilitating the comparison of results across multiple experiments. By promoting best practices in reproducible research, this session aims to provide examples of concrete solutions to adopt Open Science practices in research processes, and by doing so to foster a culture of transparency and reliability in scientific endeavours. Engage with experts and peers to explore how these advancements can enhance the integrity and trustworthiness of your research.
