D4GEN Hackathon with EGI Training Infrastructure
I’m happy to report that the EGI Training Infrastructure, for the 3rd time, has successfully supported the organisation of the D4GEN Hackathon, organised by Genopole. Genopole, the organiser of the D4Gen Hackathon, first contacted EGI through the EGI-ACE open call for use cases back in 2022, as the first editions of D4Gen mainly involved public researchers who, for some of them, are more confident with a digital infrastructure such as EGI-ACE which is funded by the European Union. Since then EGI has supported 3 editions of the D4Gen hackathon in 3 consecutive years (2022, 2023 and 2024).
Every year, the D4Gen hackathon brings together researchers, entrepreneurs, clinicians and digital students to explore new ways of using the power of artificial intelligence to resolve medical and environmental challenges.
Genopole offers them the opportunity to evolve in an environment fertile for creativity, to network and to gain new competencies and skill-sets. They also have access to advanced digital services.
Beyond the two-day event, Genopole could also give them support for the implementation, valorization and transfer of technologies. Genopole provides a wide range of research support programs, a partnering network, shared-use state-of-the-art technological platforms and expertise in business creation.
Usually, by the end of the event, all the teams manage to come up with a prototype of an idea.
The D4Gen Hackathon has used the Training Infrastructure Service from EGI. The Training Infrastructure has been used to provide participants of the D4Gen Hackathon with access to GPUs in the EGI Federated Cloud via OpenStack.
After gathering feedback from D4Gen participants about the value of the EGI infrastructure, satisfaction was rated at 4.4 out of 5
D4Gen hackathon provides an unique environment to think globally and “outside the box”. This event highlights the importance of multidisciplinarity to implement innovative approaches and solve bottlenecks. The score of satisfaction with EGI infrastructure was 4.4 out of 5. Congratulations ! - Natacha Vitrat, GENOPOLE
