Bruce Decker holds a PhD in physics from the University of Cape Town in 2007 with a focus on HPC. He acquired postdocs at CEA and INFN before returning to South Africa to help develop compute and data infrastructures for scientific research. He spent roughly 10 years co-ordinating regional infrastructure for South and Sub-Saharan Africa with the CSIR.
He joined EGI in 2018 (Operations), and achieved FitSM Certified (Expert) before moving to UEFA to help form the Euro2020 DevOps team to take UEFA Cloud-Native. He specialised as SRE serving the Gaming and Football Services Platform. After a hugely successful Euro championship, Bruce moved to a DevOps lead role for an offensive security company serving the security forces. The main focus was on test automation and autonomous operation of the product.
In 2022 he was hired by Kiratech S.p.A. as Senior Cloud-Native Engineer delivering projects for Italian and Swiss clients in industrial, financial and energy sectors. From 2023 he moved to an Engineering Management role. Now he has returned to EGI to help build EOSC and other services.
