ECHOES

Coordinator: CNRS

ECHOES’ mission is to set up the European Collaborative Cloud for Cultural Heritage (ECCCH), a shared platform designed to facilitate collaboration among heritage professionals and researchers, enabling them to modernise their workflows and processes. This platform will offer access to data, cutting-edge scientific and training resources, and advanced digital tools, all developed collaboratively by the heritage community to meet their specific requirements. ECHOES will integrate the currently fragmented communities within the Cultural Heritage (CH) sector, bringing together diverse actors from various fields and disciplines into a cohesive community focused on the Digital Commons.

EGI Foundation role in the project:

EGI works on the integration of datasets, tools, and workflows from the broader landscape into ECHOES. Moreover, it supports the technical framework and infrastructure with a scalable and secure storage and compute infrastructure. Also, EGI provides authentication and authorization infrastructure (AAI) for the single entry point in the cloud environment.
EGI supports the ecosystem’s scaling up by offering practical guidance on integrating authentication into the project’s AAI.
Last but not least, EGI contributes to the project’s long-term sustainability leverages ECCCH’s advocacy and open innovation by engaging with the private sector.

Expected results:

The project aims to:

  • Build an open-source infrastructure that enables the creation of practical applications driven by the needs of the CH communities.
  • Move away from an object-focused to a holistic approach to digital transformation of both tangible and intangible assets.
  • Bring together fragmented communities within the CH sector into a new cohesive community.
  • Integrate results of past, current and future ECCCH-related projects regarding data, services, digital processes and applications.
  • Deliver a sustainable and inclusive legal entity that handles the development, deployment, and maintenance of the ECCCH platform.
  • Enable and foster innovative, collaborative co-creation of new knowledge around the Digital Commons.

Relevance for EGI:

The participation in the project will help EGI offer AAI and Cloud Compute services to different communities, therefore expanding the collaboration in the cultural heritage domain.
