UNLOCK CEI’s ambition is to UNLOCK the potential for accelerating the deployment of the Cloud-to-Edge-IoT (CEI) computing continuum in Europe by focusing on the demand-side drivers and challenges to identify technology-driven innovation and business opportunities driving demand value chains.
EGI Foundation is leading the Work Package 2 that coordinates the development of readiness framework for CEI adoption in the EU, development of demand scenarios and market scenarios (to be validated by demand-side through workshops run by other partners), and the development of full market scenarios, market development pathways, key factors influencing different pathways, all to be validated by an expert panel convened by EGI, document all of the above plus recommendations for stakeholders (including EC).
EGI also contributes to all other WPs in the project.
The project represents the CEI demand constituency; provides insights and guidance to the Horizon Europe R&D projects in this domain, and contributes to a proactive dialogue with the supply stakeholders to encourage the development of an open European CEI ecosystem. It focuses on emerging value chains where investment is needed to foster the deployment of the Cloud-to-Edge-IoT continuum through the forthcoming CEI large scale pilots. This will ultimately foster European autonomy in the digital economy.
UNLOCK carries out a systematic assessment of the state of the open European CEI ecosystem and develops future market scenarios and related market pathways for the development of the open European CEI ecosystem. Finally, it designs and implements a coordinated communication and dissemination strategy running throughout the lifetime of the project to create awareness about the whole of the European demand-side landscape.
A better understanding of the “cloud-edge-IoT” continuum can improve EGI’s range of services and EGI staff competence in a more complex cloud-edge-IoT environment. The “cloud-edge-IoT” continuum will also introduce new business models and payment mechanisms.
